Chapter Summary

By the end of this chapter, learners will have a solid understanding of fluids and the consequences of an imbalance in body water. They will learn about the six main types of electrolytes and how water and electrolytes work together to maintain balance in the body. The chapter will cover what happens when there is an imbalance between water and electrolytes, and the importance of recording fluid input and output. Learners will understand how to document this information accurately for supervisors or registered nurses. Additionally, the chapter will explore different conditions that can arise from fluid imbalances and identify which clients are most at risk. This knowledge will equip learners to manage and support clients with fluid and electrolyte imbalances effectively.
